Dive into the world of AI by designing solutions for specific problems using Machine Learning. In this workshop, 6th - 12th Graders on Kauaʻi you'll learn how to approach machine learning tasks creatively and see how your ideas influence AI behavior.
Objective: Train your own AI model to help the ʻĀina and Kamaʻāina of Kauaʻi.
Our Kauaʻi Girl Scouts will choose one of these 3 pressing issues on Kauaʻi, and learn how to train an AI model on how to solve it:
Kauaʻi Native Forest Birds are going extinct due to invasive mosquitos. We need our native forest birds to keep our islands' ecosystems from falling apart. They have a crucial role in aiding the pollination of our native ʻōhiʻa Trees and dispersing native plant seeds.

Kauaʻi Generates on average 250 tons of trash each day. At this rate, our landfill will be full as soon as October 26th and there will be nowhere for us to dump our trash. On a small island, our options are limited but we need to find a solution that does not risk the health of our ʻĀina and Kamaʻāina of Kauaʻi. Finding a home for Kamaʻāina to rent or buy on Kauaʻi becomes more difficult as the islands' global interest increases. Current property owners are able to rent or sell their homes to visitors for much more than what they can rent or sell their homes to Kamaʻāina for. This has led to an abundance of issues; Rising Property Prices, Short-Term Rentals vs. Long-Term Housing, Displacement of Local Residents, Impact on Community and Culture, etc..
